Arsenal Secure Andria Bartishvili: A Strategic Move for 2027
Arsenal have already planted a flag in 2027 – and they’ve done it by beating Liverpool to one of Europe’s most talked‑about teenage talents.
Mikel Arteta has just overseen a ruthless clear-out of his forward line. Ethan Nwaneri has gone to Borussia Dortmund on loan, Gabriel Jesus has joined Barcelona in a £12m deal including add-ons, Gabriel Martinelli has departed for Al-Hilal for £60m, and Fabio Vieira has moved to Hamburg for £8.6m. Four attackers out. No immediate replacements in.
Yet nobody is calling this a crisis. Far from it. Arsenal’s squad still looks like the benchmark in England, the group everyone else is measuring themselves against.
Liverpool can still point to a core of players who would walk into Arteta’s XI, but the depth at Anfield no longer matches the Emirates. The Reds are dangerous, but few would seriously label them title favourites. Arsenal, by contrast, are building to dominate both now and later.
They have already moved aggressively for established, peak-age stars such as Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimaraes, both 28, to keep the current title window wide open. At the same time, they are quietly laying down tracks for the next era.
Andria Bartishvili is the latest piece of that long-term puzzle.
Arsenal beat Liverpool to Georgian prodigy
Across the summer, Arsenal and Liverpool went head-to-head for the 17-year-old Georgian attacking midfielder, whose reputation has surged to the point that “wonderkid” no longer feels like an exaggeration. Liverpool went as far as putting a contract on the table.
It wasn’t enough.
The Premier League champions moved decisively, and Bartishvili chose north London.
On August 29, Fabrizio Romano delivered the three words that now define modern transfer sagas. “Here we go.” His update was clear: Arsenal had agreed a deal to sign Bartishvili, with a medical booked in London and a five-year contract waiting.
Romano detailed the structure: the teenager would officially join in 2027 when he turns 18, in a deal worth €4.5m, with the move coming from his current Georgian side.
Days later, the story moved from agreement to action. Romano reported that Bartishvili was travelling to London to complete his medical and finalise the switch, again stressing that the plan is for him to join Arsenal from June 2027 once he is of age.
The final step came on Friday morning. Romano announced that Bartishvili had completed his medical and that the transfer could now be considered formally sealed. The message was unambiguous: Arsenal have their man.
“Georgian talent Andria Bartishvili can be considered a new Arsenal player,” Romano posted, adding that the contract is set to be signed and that the midfielder will link up with the first team in the summer of 2027 when he turns 18.
A deal for tomorrow, made today
This is not a signing that changes Arsenal’s starting XI this weekend. It doesn’t answer the immediate questions left by the exits of Jesus, Martinelli, Nwaneri and Vieira.
What it does show is a club utterly sure of its direction. While rivals scramble to plug gaps, Arsenal are already locking in the next wave of talent, even if those players are still years away from pulling on the shirt.
Liverpool wanted Bartishvili. Arsenal got him. The champions have made their first signing for 2027, and they’ve done it at the expense of a direct rival.
