Calvert-Lewin Set to Extend Contract with Leeds, Impacting Man Utd's Striker Search
Leeds United are closing in on a new contract for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, shutting the door on one of Manchester United’s leading January options.
The England international, 29, is poised to extend his stay at Elland Road, where he has rebuilt his career and his reputation. Since arriving on a free transfer from Everton, Calvert-Lewin has scored 20 goals in 49 appearances for the Whites, rediscovering the penalty-box sharpness that once made him a mainstay in the national team squad.
Leeds already had the striker tied down until 2028, but the club have moved to reinforce their position, rewarding a player who has become central to their attacking identity. His output, consistency and experience have turned him into far more than a shrewd free signing; he is now a cornerstone.
For Manchester United, the timing could hardly be worse. With Benjamin Sesko ruled out for an extended spell as he recovers from a shin injury, Old Trafford chiefs had turned their attention to the January market in search of a forward. Calvert-Lewin, with Premier League pedigree and proven goals, had emerged as a realistic and attractive option.
Those hopes are now fading fast. A fresh deal at Elland Road would make any mid-season move both politically awkward and financially prohibitive, forcing United to rework their shortlist at a moment when the margin for error is shrinking.
Leeds, by contrast, can look ahead with clarity. In a market where reliable centre-forwards are scarce and expensive, locking in a 29-year-old England striker who is already delivering in their shirt feels like the kind of decisive move that shapes seasons, not just transfer windows.
