Danilo Aims for Farewell Season at Flamengo in 2027

Danilo has finally allowed himself to look beyond the next training session, the next flight, the next international camp – and towards the final chapter of his career.

After months dominated by national-team duty, the Flamengo defender admitted he only recently found the mental and physical space to sit down with the club and talk seriously about his future. The conversations, he says, are steering him toward a clear destination: a farewell season in red and black in 2027.

Speaking at Ninho do Urubu, Danilo laid out the strain of juggling a World Cup year with the demands of a 35-year-old body still competing at the highest level.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he explained, underlining how international duty had consumed his energy.

Only now, with the calendar easing and the World Cup in the rear-view mirror, has he been able to step back.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

This is not a negotiation clouded by tension or brinkmanship. The former Real Madrid and Manchester City defender made it clear that renewal talks are moving smoothly, with no sign of friction on either side. Both parties know what they want.

Danilo’s ambition is simple: to close the circle where it began, at his boyhood club, and to do it on his terms.

“We have spoken very calmly,” he said. “Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

The tone is not nostalgic resignation; it’s purposeful. He wants a final season that means something, not a slow fade into retirement. The target is clear enough.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening, and hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

One more contract. One more year. And, if Flamengo match his ambition, one last trophy lift to close a career that began in Rio and, by his design, will end there too.
