Juventus Sign Nick Woltemade on Loan from Newcastle
Juventus have moved to plug a looming gap in their attack, striking a season-long loan deal for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade.
The 24-year-old is expected in Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m fee, with no option to buy included in the agreement. A straight loan, a clean exit at the end of the season if either side wants it that way.
Juventus pick their man
Juve have been scouring the market for a forward with Jonathan David poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan. The shortlist was not short on pedigree. Talks were held with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee after his proposed move to Fiorentina collapsed late on.
In the end, the Italian giants turned away from Old Trafford and towards Tyneside. They judged Woltemade the better fit for their plans – and, just as importantly in a tight market, the cheaper one. Zirkzee came with a catch: United wanted an obligation-to-buy clause. Juventus were not prepared to be pinned down like that.
Woltemade arrives without that financial handcuff. If it works, they can talk again. If it doesn’t, they shake hands and move on.
Newcastle’s reshuffle up front
The move comes at a time of flux in Newcastle’s forward line. Woltemade only joined the club from Stuttgart in August 2025, hailed then as a statement signing and, at £69m, a record outlay for the Premier League side.
On the pitch, though, his start under new manager Matthias Jaissle has been stop-start. He has begun just one of Newcastle’s first three matches this season. His most telling contribution so far came off the bench at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, when he set up Yoane Wissa in a 2-0 away win.
That cameo underlined his quality but did not change the broader picture. Jaissle is reshaping the attack, and the club have already moved to bring in Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo in a deal worth up to £55m. The 21-year-old flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise the transfer, a signing that always looked likely to push someone towards the exit.
Woltemade is that someone.
A calculated gamble on both sides
For Juventus, this is a low-risk, potentially high-reward play. They secure a versatile, physically imposing forward in his mid-20s, with Bundesliga and Premier League experience, without committing to a long-term fee.
For Newcastle, it is a reset. A record signing who never quite settled into a nailed-on starting role under a new coach now gets a chance to rebuild his rhythm elsewhere, while Fernandez-Pardo steps into the spotlight.
Woltemade’s next stop is Turin and a medical. What follows could decide whether this is just a one-season Italian detour – or the start of a more permanent shift in his career trajectory.
