AFC Wimbledon Assistant Boss Terry Skiverton Diagnosed with Throat Cancer
AFC Wimbledon assistant manager Terry Skiverton has been diagnosed with throat cancer and will begin treatment in the coming weeks, the club have confirmed.
The 51-year-old has already been away from day-to-day duties since July, when he stepped back to recover from ankle surgery. What initially looked like a straightforward spell on the sidelines has since taken a far more serious turn.
In a statement, the League One club said Skiverton had faced “further health challenges” and stressed that he is not facing them alone. They highlighted the role of the League Managers Association, who have been providing him with support in recent months, and underlined their own commitment to stand with him and his family throughout his treatment and recovery.
“Everyone at AFC Wimbledon sends Terry their heartfelt best wishes as he prepares for the next stage of his treatment,” the club said.
Skiverton arrived at Wimbledon in May 2022 as assistant to Johnnie Jackson, bringing with him deep experience from a long association with Yeovil Town as both player and manager. His influence has been felt sharply at Plough Lane, where he played a key role in the club’s rise and their promotion to League One via the play-offs in 2025.
For now, the touchline will have to wait. The battle in front of him is far more important than any fixture list, and Wimbledon have made it clear he will not be fighting it on his own.
