Alex Volkanovski Praises UFC Featherweight Prospect Kevin Vallejos

UFC Champion Alex Volkanovski Recognizes Kevin Vallejos’ Potential

Alex Volkanovski, the reigning UFC featherweight champion, has expressed admiration for Kevin Vallejos, a young and promising fighter from Argentina. At only 24 years old, Vallejos has quickly made a name for himself by winning his first four fights in the UFC after joining the organization last year.

Before his UFC run, Vallejos participated twice on Dana White’s Contender Series. He lost a decision to Jean Silva in 2023 but bounced back with a knockout victory over Cam Teague in 2024, which earned him a UFC contract.

Upcoming High-Profile Bout at UFC Qatar

Vallejos is about to face a significant challenge at UFC Qatar next month, where he will fight former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. This matchup could elevate Vallejos into the upper ranks of the featherweight division if he manages to secure a win.

Volkanovski’s Thoughts Ahead of His Title Defense

Speaking to MMAjunkie.com before defending his featherweight title against Movsar Evloev at UFC 333, Volkanovski singled out Vallejos along with other contenders like Silva and Sterling as fighters who stand out in the division.

“After Movsar, you’ve got your Jean Silvas, you’ve got your Aljamain Sterlings, who are both pretty much in the exact same position. They’re the ones who stand out the most right now. … That’s another one – (Kevin Vallejos) there. So whether Kevin can get a title fight that quick and jump the line, I don’t know,” said Volkanovski.

He added that while Sterling and Silva might be closest to a title shot, Vallejos faces a tough test. Fighting a seasoned veteran with strong fight IQ will be challenging, but success here would prove Vallejos deserves to be among the top contenders.

Who Could Be the Next Title Challenger?

If Volkanovski overcomes Evloev, Silva seems the likely next challenger. Yet, Vallejos could claim the next title shot by defeating Sterling convincingly at UFC Qatar. A win there would strongly position Vallejos as a leading contender for the featherweight championship.
