Danilo's Plans for Flamengo Farewell in 2027

Danilo has drawn a clear line in his mind: 2027. That, he believes, is when a long, decorated career will come full circle at Flamengo.

Speaking at Ninho do Urubu, the veteran defender admitted that only now, after the demands of international duty, has he finally had the headspace to address his future properly.

"In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared," he said, explaining why contract talks had been pushed back. The calendar, his age, the weight of a World Cup – everything revolved around performance, not planning.

Now the focus has shifted.

"Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career."

It is not a negotiation laced with drama. Far from it. Danilo described the discussions with his boyhood club as calm, aligned, and moving in the same direction. No brinkmanship, no public pressure, just a shared understanding of what this final chapter should look like.

"We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say 'this is the last year of my career' and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working."

The former Real Madrid and Manchester City defender made it clear: he does not see any barriers between intention and signature.

"I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening, and hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy - that would be wonderful."

For Danilo, it is not just about one last season. It is about the setting, the colours, the shirt, and the chance to close a global career exactly where his football story began – chasing one more major trophy with Flamengo before he walks away.
