Eli Junior Kroupi: Bournemouth Prodigy Nominated for Ballon d'Or

Eli Junior Kroupi will miss the start of the new season in a protective boot, but his name is heading for one of football’s grandest stages.

The Bournemouth forward has been shortlisted for the Men’s Young Talent of the Year award ahead of the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, recognition of a breakout campaign that lit up the south coast and rippled across the Premier League.

At 20, Kroupi is one of only three Premier League players in a 10-man list, joined by Manchester City’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and Aston Villa’s Johan Manzambi. That company alone underlines the scale of his rise.

He only made his Bournemouth debut in August 2025. From there, he barely stopped. Thirty-five appearances. Thirteen goals. All competitions. For a first season in England’s top flight, those are not just promising numbers; they are era-marking for a teenager.

By the end of the 2025-26 campaign, Kroupi had scored more goals than any other teenager in their debut Premier League season. In a league that has long been a proving ground for young attackers, he set the new bar.

The story has stalled, for now. A foot injury in pre-season, followed by surgery, has kept him out of Bournemouth’s early fixtures. The club expects him back in October or November, a frustrating wait for a player who had gathered so much momentum so quickly.

Yet while he works his way back in the shadows of the training ground, his impact is about to be celebrated under the brightest lights. The Men’s Young Talent of the Year award will be one of the honours handed out at the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday, 26 October.

When the world’s elite gather in the capital, Kroupi will not be running in behind defences or ghosting into the box. He will instead stand as proof that one extraordinary debut season can be enough to force the football world to take notice—and to ask what comes next once he’s fit again.
