Lamine Yamal on What Barcelona Must Do to Capture the Champions League
Lamine Yamal Shares His Thoughts on Barcelona's Champions League Ambitions
Lamine Yamal has expressed that Barcelona are aiming beyond just enjoying a strong start to their season. The team has set sights on greater achievements as they push forward in the campaign.
The Blaugrana have positioned themselves as serious contenders, and Yamal believes their squad’s quality and unity put them in a good spot to fight for major trophies.
Luck and Experience Key in Europe's Biggest Competition
Discussing the challenges ahead in the Champions League with On Sport (via Mundo Deportivo), Yamal highlighted how unpredictable knockout matches can be.
"It all comes down to fate. The Champions League isn’t decided in a single match; you can play badly and lose the title. So you need luck, along with experience, and these things build up year after year," he said.
Yamal points out that while the team can control their performance, the later rounds often hinge on fine margins — small moments, injuries, finishing, and handling pressure.
Despite this, his drive remains strong:
"I hope luck is on our side this year. We're playing to win the title; we're not here just for a stroll. We want to bring the trophy back to Barcelona, and God willing, we'll achieve victory this year."
Differing Strengths of Raphinha and Lewandowski
When asked to compare Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Yamal avoided picking sides. Instead, he praised how their contrasting skills add value to the team.
"I don’t think it’s a question of better or worse. The team adapts to different players, and each player has different strengths. Robert stands out for his ability to finish attacking moves, while Raphinha is a great passer. Each has their own strengths and skills, and every player shines for what they do."
Team Chemistry Fuels Barcelona’s Momentum
Yamal also noted the positive impact of new signings settling quickly and the growing understanding among existing players. This blend has helped boost the team's early-season performances.
"We're in great form at the moment and eager to keep playing entertaining and exciting football. There’s been a step up in standard, performance, and quality, both because of the new players who have settled in well and because of the chemistry between the established players, which is growing stronger by the day."
He wrapped up by emphasizing the collective mindset driving the squad:
"We all play with the same mindset – a winning mindset – and we’ll always do what we believe is best for the team. We’re one big family within the squad, and our aim is always to win."
