Liverpool Considering January Move for Lamine Camara
Liverpool are weighing up a January move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with the deal now viewed as a “real possibility” after his dramatic deadline-day collapse at Chelsea.
The 22-year-old was on the brink of joining Chelsea in the final hours of the summer window. He had held lengthy talks over his role at Stamford Bridge and, according to reports, had given the London club the green light. Then Monaco pulled the plug. No last-minute scramble, no compromise. Just a hard stop.
Chelsea’s interest has not cooled, but the landscape has changed. Any club coming back for Camara in January will face a higher asking price. The package Chelsea thought they had in place, worth around €55m (£47m, $63m), has been pushed up towards €70m (£60m, $81m). That is the territory Liverpool are now said to be entering.
Football Insider report that Liverpool have already “held talks” over a potential deal, with Mick Brown claiming Camara’s name is firmly on the agenda at Anfield.
“Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes,” Brown told Football Insider. He added that Liverpool will be closely tracking his performances for Monaco and suggested there is “definitely a deal to be done” given how close he came to joining Chelsea. With Camara’s agent openly pushing for a move, the expectation is that Liverpool have at least explored the possibility of a January switch.
If Liverpool do move, they will not be alone. Chelsea are still in the frame, and the player’s camp has already shown a willingness to engage with England’s biggest clubs. The question now is who blinks first and who pays Monaco’s new price.
Liverpool eye Mitchell as left-back market tightens
Midfield is not the only area under review. Liverpool are also assessing their options at left-back, a position that could see significant churn over the next two windows.
Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas are the current senior choices. Kerkez has yet to fully convince, his form questioned as he adapts to the demands at the top end of the Premier League. Tsimikas, meanwhile, is edging towards the end of his contract, which expires at the close of this season, and he has not been able to establish himself as an undisputed first-choice option.
That uncertainty has pushed Liverpool into the same conversation as Manchester United over Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell.
Mitchell, long regarded as one of the most reliable defensive full-backs in the league, has already been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Now, according to another update from Brown via Football Insider, he is being closely monitored by any club in need of a high-level, Premier League-ready left-back.
“Man United aren’t going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell,” Brown said. He pointed to the scarcity of consistent options in that position, highlighting the Palace defender’s weekly standards, defensive strength and improved attacking output. In his words, Mitchell is a “top, top player”.
That profile places him squarely on the radar of clubs who need reliability on that flank. Brown namechecked Liverpool, noting that Kerkez “has been questioned a bit and maybe isn’t as consistent as they’d like him to be”, and flagged Chelsea as another natural suitor, given their willingness to move for quality without always chasing the very highest fee.
“Either of those clubs could make a move for Mitchell,” Brown argued, suggesting the 24-year-old ticks a host of boxes for sides at the sharp end of the table.
So Liverpool head towards January with two parallel tracks: a midfield upgrade in Camara, at a premium price, and a potential reshaping of their left side of defence with Mitchell. In a market short on proven quality, how bold they choose to be could define the next phase of their rebuild.
