Maduka Okoye to Receive Udinese Player of the Season Award
Maduka Okoye Honored as Udinese's Player of the Season
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been chosen as Udinese's Player of the Season following a strong showing in the 2025/26 Serie A campaign. This award will be presented at the 26th Galà del Calcio Triveneto event in Vicenza on October 12, though Okoye is expected to miss the ceremony due to his club commitments.
Outstanding Performances Lead to Recognition
The 27-year-old Nigerian international cemented his spot as Udinese's main goalkeeper throughout the season. Despite a rocky start marked by a suspension for a sporting misconduct incident related to a deliberate yellow card from the previous season, Okoye returned firmly to the starting lineup and ended the season with impressive stats.
- Serie A appearances: 30
- Clean sheets recorded: 10
- Notable streak: Three consecutive clean sheets against Genoa, Como, and AC Milan
His performances earned him call-ups to Nigeria's national squad for consecutive Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, although he remained on the bench as coach Eric Chelle favored Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United.
Future Prospects
Okoye’s contract with Udinese runs through the 2027/28 season, offering him time to continue proving himself at club level and compete for a starting role with the Super Eagles. The award highlights his value in Italy despite his ongoing competition for Nigeria's goalkeeper position.
