Manchester City Sign Allan Elias from Palmeiras for £34.2m
Manchester City have dipped back into the Brazilian market, completing the signing of winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras in a deal worth up to £34.2m.
City will pay an initial £32m, with a further £2.2m tied to performance-related add-ons, for the 22-year-old right-sided attacker, who has agreed a five-year contract.
He arrives as a straight replacement for compatriot Savio, whose £75m switch to Tottenham Hotspur last week opened up a vacancy on Enzo Maresca’s flank. One Brazilian departs, another steps into the space.
From Palmeiras prodigy to City project
Allan comes to Manchester as a fully formed first-team player rather than a raw prospect. Having risen through Palmeiras’ academy, he made 96 appearances in all competitions for the Brazilian giants, scoring nine goals and supplying 12 assists.
Those numbers only tell part of the story. At Palmeiras he built a reputation as a direct, right-sided winger who relishes taking on defenders and stretching games. City, under a new head coach and reshaping their attack, clearly see him as a profile fit rather than a speculative gamble.
For Allan, the move marks a leap into the European elite.
“This is a surreal moment for me. Manchester City, with everything they have won over the past 15 years, are one of the most attractive clubs in the world for players,” he said after signing.
“To be able to sit here today and say I have joined them is the proudest moment of my life.
“I love Palmeiras and always will - but the decision to come to City was an easy one. I want to be the best footballer I can be and the conversations I've had with the people at City so far has convinced me there isn't a better place for me to fulfil my ambitions.”
The message is clear: this is a career-defining step, not just a lucrative move.
Maresca’s expensive overhaul
Allan’s arrival continues a relentless summer of churn at the Etihad. Since taking charge, Maresca has overseen a level of squad surgery that underlines both City’s financial power and their willingness to evolve quickly.
The club have already spent more than £230m in this window alone. The headline outlay came on Elliot Anderson, signed from Nottingham Forest for £116m, while highly rated midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi joined from Lille for £85.6m.
Now Allan slots into that pattern: young, technical, with room to grow under a demanding coach.
City are not done yet. They are in talks with Liverpool over Dutch forward Cody Gakpo and remain keen on Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, a player long admired across Europe. If those negotiations advance, Maresca’s first City squad will bear only a passing resemblance to the one he inherited.
Big sales, big bets
The spending, though, has been underpinned by major exits. City have already raised more than £286m in player sales, headlined by the departure of 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner Rodri, who joined Barcelona in a £65m deal.
Tijani Reijnders has also moved on, leaving for Al-Qadsiah in a £52m transfer as part of a broader trimming of the squad.
This is not a club drifting into a new era; it is one accelerating towards it. The balance sheet shows heavy traffic both ways, but the footballing logic is pointed in one direction: younger legs, fresh ideas, and a squad tailored to Maresca’s blueprint.
Allan now steps into that whirlwind, leaving behind the comfort of Palmeiras for the glare of Manchester. How quickly he adapts to the Premier League tempo and the weight of City’s expectations will say plenty about where this rebuilt side is heading – and how fast they can get there.
