Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona Femeni Honored as Clubs of the Year at Ballon d'Or
Paris Saint-Germain claimed the Men’s Club of the Year award after a landmark season capped by their first-ever Champions League title. The French club's triumph was celebrated at the Ballon d’Or gala in Paris, where they edged out tough competition from across Europe. This achievement marks a major moment for the Ligue 1 side, who have long pursued this top honor in club football.
Ousmane Dembele, sidelined with injury and unable to play in PSG's 2-0 win over Lyon that night, accepted the trophy on behalf of the team. He said, "On behalf of all the Paris Saint-Germain club, I want to thank the president, sporting director, staff, and our coach Luis Enrique. Our fans always back us and stand with us. We've built an incredible club and fight side by side. Facing Bayern in the semi-final was incredible – it could have been our Champions League."
Barcelona Femeni Secure Women’s Club of the Year
FC Barcelona Femeni continued their dominance in women’s football by winning the Women’s Club of the Year award. The Catalan team has set the standard with skillful play and relentless determination, sweeping aside rivals both in Spain and Europe. Their consistent success earned high praise during the ceremony.
Club president Joan Laporta accepted the award, praising the collective effort behind their achievements. He stated, "Thank you, France Football, for honoring us as the best women’s club. It is a great privilege. I thank everyone involved in Barça’s history: the players, coach Pere Romeu, directors Xavi Puig and Angel Ruidalbas. Also, thanks to UEFA, the RFEF, and La Liga for organizing competitions where our players shine."
Looking Ahead: Ambitions Remain High
The awards highlight changing tides in European football as both clubs aim to extend their legacies. PSG’s victory broke the usual Spanish dominance in the men’s category, while Barcelona’s leadership emphasized their hunger for further trophies. They have blended youthful talent with seasoned stars, crafting a sustainable winning path.
Laporta addressed Barcelona supporters with determination: "To our fans, always by our side: this season we aim to win La Liga three times consecutively and contend strongly for the Champions League."
