Ronaldinho's Comeback in Serie C Derby: A Stunning Return

Ronaldinho is coming back. Not for a testimonial, not for a charity kickabout, but for a competitive league match in Italy’s third tier.

Ravenna president Ignazio Cipriani has confirmed that the Brazilian legend will pull on the club’s shirt and step out at Stadio Benelli on November 15, 2026, in a Serie C derby against Forlì.

“The Magic never left; now it's time to bring him back onto the pitch. The return is real,” Cipriani said in a statement via Ansa. For a club of Ravenna’s size, it is a staggering coup. For Serie C, it is a moment that drags the division onto a global stage.

A World Star in Italy’s Third Division

Ronaldinho, the former Milan and Barcelona star and one of Brazil’s most gifted players, has not played a competitive match since turning out for Fluminense in 2015. More than a decade has passed. He is now 46.

Yet on November 15, he will walk into a derby. Not the glamour of Camp Nou or San Siro, but the intensity of Ravenna–Forlì, a local battle suddenly transformed into a worldwide spectacle.

“They told us it was impossible,” Cipriani continued. “On November 15, Ronaldinho will take the pitch at Stadio Benelli in our shirt, and in a match as important as the derby against Forlì.

“We believed in it from day one and, thanks to the passion and work of our whole team, we turned an idea that seemed impossible into an occasion the entire world now awaits.”

The ambition is clear. Ravenna are not just signing a name; they are staging an event.

From World Cup Stands to Serie C Grass

Ronaldinho has remained a visible presence around the game. He attended the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C match between Brazil and Haiti at Philadelphia Stadium on June 19, 2026, and later appeared in the Topps Final Halftime Show at the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina in East Rutherford, performing alongside Madonna and Ronaldo.

Now the spotlight moves from the VIP box to the touchline.

Ravenna confirmed his signing at an event in Miami in June, a fittingly glitzy backdrop for a player whose career has always blended sport and spectacle. Since then, the club have waited for the moment when fantasy would become a fixture date.

Ronaldinho has not yet trained with the team. Even so, according to Corriere della Sera, he has been following Ravenna’s matches closely, while his brother and agent, Roberto De Assis, was spotted at the club’s stadium at the end of September. The groundwork, off the pitch at least, has been laid.

How Much Can He Play?

One question hangs over the whole operation: how many minutes can a 46-year-old, away from competitive action for more than 10 years, actually handle?

For now, there is no definitive answer. Ravenna have confirmed the appearance, not the workload. Whether he starts, comes on for a brief cameo, or offers a handful of touches late on, the certainty is that he will play.

In truth, the number of minutes may matter less than the image itself: Ronaldinho, boots laced, in Ravenna colours, in a real league match with points on the line.

For Serie C, it is a surreal twist. For Ravenna, it is a statement of daring. For Ronaldinho, it is one more unexpected chapter in a career that has never followed a straight line.

On November 15, at Stadio Benelli, the clock turns back—if only for a few minutes—and the world will look to a modest Italian ground to see what is left in the feet that once lit up the game.
