Stephen Curry Ready for Season Opener After Ankle Injury at Practice
Stephen Curry Clears Ankle Injury Concern, Set to Play Season Opener vs. Lakers
Stephen Curry faced a brief injury scare during Golden State Warriors' open practice but is confirmed ready for the upcoming season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.
During Sunday’s session at the Chase Center in San Francisco, Curry twisted his right ankle while handling the ball near the top of the key. The star guard immediately stopped play, visibly frustrated, and limped off towards the bench before heading to the locker room.
"Always, always," said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr when asked if he was worried seeing Curry limp off the court, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Luca Evans. "He’s fine. I talked to him after he went downstairs and went into the training room."
Kerr clarified that Curry’s knee, which had been a concern last season, was unaffected by the ankle incident. On Monday, the coach confirmed Curry participated fully in practice and will be available for Wednesday's game in Los Angeles.
Last season, Curry averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists per game over 43 games. His playing time was limited due to a persistent right knee issue, which contributed to the Warriors finishing 37-45 and missing the playoffs for the second time in three years. Despite that, Curry recently signed a two-year, $116 million contract extension with Golden State.
The Warriors kick off their 2026-27 campaign against the Lakers on Wednesday night. What looked like a potential setback now appears only a minor bump as Curry prepares to lead his team from the start.
