Cavan GAA Investigates Fire at Kingspan Breffni Park
Cavan GAA has launched an investigation after a fire broke out in the kitchen area of Kingspan Breffni Park in the early hours of Friday morning, leaving the county’s flagship ground without water or power and out of action for the weekend.
The blaze, which RTÉ Sport understands was tackled by the fire brigade shortly after midnight, occurred when the stadium was empty. No one was present at the time, and no injuries have been reported.
Early indications are that the damage has been largely confined to the kitchen section of the ground. Assessors spent Friday examining the scene to determine both the full extent of the damage and the cause of the fire, as Cavan GAA moved quickly into crisis-management mode.
For now, Kingspan Breffni Park is effectively shut down. The loss of water and electricity has rendered the venue unusable at one of the busiest points in the club calendar.
The timing could hardly be worse. On Thursday night, the ground had hosted Crosserlough’s win over Laragh in the Cavan senior club football championship, with a full weekend schedule lined up to follow.

were all fixed for Kingspan Breffni. Every one of those SFC ties will now be moved to alternative venues, forcing a rapid reshuffle of arrangements for clubs, supporters, and officials.
In a statement, Cavan GAA confirmed the shutdown and underlined the seriousness of the incident.
“Due to a major incident at Kingspan Breffni overnight, the venue is out of commission for the weekend,” the statement read. “Thankfully nobody was injured but currently no power or water in the stadium. Further details will be shared once the full extent of the damage has been assessed. Thank you for your understanding.”
For a ground that sits at the heart of football in the county, the priority now is clear: find out what happened, repair what has been damaged, and get Kingspan Breffni Park back in use before the championship rhythm is broken beyond repair.
