How Mercedes Can Secure the F1 Constructors' Championship at the Brazil GP

Mercedes Eyes Ninth Constructors' Title at Brazil Grand Prix

Following Kimi Antonelli's first Formula 1 world championship win at the Mexico GP, Mercedes has the chance to claim their ninth constructors' championship in São Paulo. The team has dominated this season, winning 12 out of 19 races and holding a strong lead in the standings.

Ferrari remains the only team with a mathematical shot at catching them, but they trail by 126 points, making a comeback very difficult.

What Mercedes Needs to Win in Brazil

At the Mexico GP, Mercedes needed a 1-2 finish while Ferrari could score no more than four points to clinch the title, but that did not happen. Now in Brazil, the gap means Mercedes just needs to outscore Ferrari by three points or more to secure the championship.

  • Both Mercedes drivers finish in the points ahead of Ferrari's cars
  • Mercedes finishes 1-2, 1-3, or 1-4
  • Mercedes finishes 2-3 or 2-4 and Ferrari does not win
  • Both Mercedes cars place in the top five with no Ferrari on the podium
  • Antonelli or Russell finishes in the top eight while both Ferraris retire

So far this season, excluding sprint races, Mercedes has outscored Ferrari by three points or more in 10 of the 19 rounds.

New Era for Mercedes Without Lewis Hamilton

The 2026 season is notable as the first time since 1955 that Mercedes has won world titles without Lewis Hamilton. Instead, young driver Kimi Antonelli has stepped into the spotlight.

Toto Wolff, team principal, said, "The championships with Lewis were absolutely incredible and rewarding. We were part of Lewis's history, one of the greatest champions. Those moments will stay with us forever. He remains culturally relevant beyond Formula 1."
Wolff added, "This current championship feels different. Kimi is still like the kid who hasn’t changed much visually. It’s refreshing. I tried to reach him a few weeks ago and he was at a water park for his birthday. As long as we can keep it that way, Kimi is deeply connected to Mercedes, which is great to see."

Kimi Antonelli has brought new energy to the team, marking a fresh chapter for Mercedes’ success.
