Joe Bursik Returns to AFC Wimbledon on Season-Long Loan

A familiar face is back between the posts at Plough Lane. AFC Wimbledon have brought in goalkeeper Joe Bursik on loan from Championship side Portsmouth for the rest of the season, sealing a move that feels as much like a homecoming as a transfer.

Bursik, now 26, first walked through Wimbledon's doors as an eight-year-old, learning his trade in the club’s academy before departing for Stoke City at 16. He returns older, battle-tested, and with a sizeable body of experience behind him.

His breakthrough came at Stoke, where he produced seven clean sheets in just 16 Championship appearances during the 2020-2021 campaign, a run that underlined his potential at senior level. Those performances were followed by a series of loan spells that toughened him up across the divisions, with stints at Telford, Accrington, Doncaster and Peterborough sharpening his game.

Portsmouth moved for him in September 2025, and Bursik has since made 10 league appearances for Pompey. He also started one of the club’s biggest fixtures of recent seasons, lining up against Arsenal in a 4-1 FA Cup third-round defeat at Fratton Park.

Now he steps back into Wimbledon colours, no longer the academy hopeful but a seasoned professional with something to prove and a club that knows exactly what he means to its story.
