Jose Mourinho Praises Andriy Lunin’s Standout Performance in El Clasico Victory

In a thrilling El Clasico match at Camp Nou, Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin stepped up magnificently in place of the injured Thibaut Courtois. His crucial saves helped secure a 2-1 win over Barcelona. The Ukrainian keeper's performance caught the attention of manager Jose Mourinho and captain Fede Valverde, who both highlighted his professionalism and readiness.

Lunin’s Key Saves Preserve Madrid’s Lead

Replacing Courtois, Lunin made several vital stops throughout the game. His defining moment came in the 66th minute when he made an incredible save to deny Gerard Martin’s close-range header from a corner kick. His calmness under pressure ensured Madrid held on to their advantage and took all three points away from home.

Mourinho and Valverde Commend Lunin’s Preparation

After the match, Jose Mourinho shared what he told Lunin before kickoff: “You train to play, not to sit on the bench. Go and play.” Mourinho praised his balanced and composed display, noting no one was upset about Courtois being sidelined.

Captain Fede Valverde added his praise, saying, “There are no words to describe what he did today. He’s always working behind the scenes, giving his all.”

Lunin Credits Daily Work for His Sharpness

Speaking after the game, Lunin gave credit to his training routine with goalkeeping coach Nuno. He emphasized discipline and attitude as key factors, especially when Barcelona dominated possession.

“Nuno always says well trained, and I think it’s because of the daily work. When the game is difficult, you have to know how to suffer, manage the game and be a team until the end,” Lunin explained.

Strengthening Real Madrid’s Goalkeeping Depth

Lunin’s impressive display confirms Real Madrid’s strong depth at goalkeeper. He remains ready whenever Mourinho calls upon him during Courtois’s recovery period.

Looking ahead, Real Madrid prepares for their next La Liga match against Santander.
