Juventus Pursue Kessie for Midfield Reinforcement
Franck Kessie has made up his mind. After three lucrative, trophy-laden seasons in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli, the Ivorian midfielder wants one more crack at the European elite – and he wants it in black and white.
Juventus have moved early and decisively. They are not alone in the race, with offers on the table from Turkiye and the Saudi Pro League, but Kessie has given his word: his priority is Turin. At this stage of his career, he is not chasing the biggest contract. He is chasing a stage worthy of his final act.
A proven Serie A weapon
For Juventus, the attraction is obvious. Their midfield has lacked authority, personality and goals in recent seasons. Kessie has already shown in Italy that he can supply all three.
His years at AC Milan turned him into one of Serie A’s most complete midfielders: powerful in the duels, disciplined without the ball, and ruthless when arriving late in the box. Luciano Moggi, never shy with an opinion on Juventus, sees Kessie as exactly the kind of signing the club have been missing.
“This situation can be overcome with a level reinforcement in midfield, which is why in the event of Kessiè's arrival I would say the managers are good,” he told Calciomercato. “The former AC Milan player is someone who can bring order and personality, has the leg and can score goals, can act as a barrier and facilitate counterattacks. I have faith in Carnevali and Massara and the Juventus fans must have it too, let's let them work.”
Strip away the rhetoric and the message is clear: Kessie is viewed internally as a cornerstone, not a luxury. A player to bring balance, not just depth.
The numbers game in Turin
There is, however, a cold reality behind the enthusiasm. Juventus need to sell before they can sign. The wage bill is already heavy, and room has to be created for a player of Kessie’s standing.
That is the puzzle the directors are working on now. Outgoings to unlock an incoming they believe can reshape the midfield. The club know they have an advantage: Kessie’s will. His camp has made it clear he wants Juventus, and that desire can tilt negotiations in their favour.
