Katie Taylor’s Farewell Fight with Westlife Performing at Croke Park

Westlife will headline the entertainment on what promises to be one of the most emotional nights in Irish sporting history, performing at Katie Taylor’s farewell fight at Croke Park this Saturday.

The iconic Irish group will take centre stage as part of the show built around Taylor’s final professional bout, adding a layer of nostalgia and national pride to an evening already heavy with significance. Their performance will frame what is expected to be a deeply charged last ring walk for the Bray fighter, who has carried Irish boxing on her shoulders for more than a decade.

Taylor faces undefeated French opponent Flora Pili in front of more than 80,000 fans, with the 38-year-old bidding to close out her career as a three-time undisputed world champion. It is the kind of stage she has long deserved, and now she gets it in the country’s biggest stadium, with one of Ireland’s biggest pop acts providing the soundtrack.

Westlife said they were “so honoured” to be asked by Taylor to be part of the occasion, a sentiment that underlines the crossover between sport and culture that this night represents.

“She has inspired the whole country and we couldn’t be prouder to perform for her at Croke Park, a stadium that also means so much to us,” the band said.

They know the place well. Westlife have already sold out Croke Park six times, turning the Dublin arena into their own vast, open-air choir. The numbers behind them are just as striking: more than 55 million records sold worldwide, 16 Irish No.1 singles, 14 UK chart-toppers, and a catalogue of hits – from Flying Without Wings and Queen of My Heart to You Raise Me Up – that have become part of the Irish soundtrack over the last quarter-century.

This appearance drops just days before they embark on a record-breaking 13-night residency at Dublin’s 3Arena from 10 September, a run that forms the centrepiece of their 25th anniversary celebrations. Saturday night at Croke Park, then, becomes both a tribute to Taylor and a prelude to another milestone in Westlife’s own story.

More acts are expected to be confirmed in the coming days, with organisers lining up additional entertainment to wrap around the main event and build the sense of occasion before Taylor makes that final walk.

For those not inside Croke Park, Katie Taylor v Flora Pili will be shown live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, with live radio commentary on RTÉ 2FM, while DAZN will carry the event to a global audience.
