Oleksandr Khizhnyak Joins WBA Rankings After Olympic Gold

Oleksandr Khizhnyak, fresh from Olympic gold in Paris, has taken his first clear step into boxing’s elite. The Ukrainian has entered the World Boxing Association’s latest light heavyweight rankings at No. 15, a rapid rise that underlines how quickly his professional career is gathering pace.

The ranking comes on the back of a statement win in August in Lviv, where Khizhnyak claimed the first title of his pro journey. Under the lights in his home country, he outworked and outclassed Argentine fighter Elias Palacio Durval to secure the WBA Gold International light heavyweight belt.

Judges' Scores: 99–91, 98–92, 100–90

There was no room for argument on the scorecards. The judges handed Khizhnyak a unanimous decision, a spread that reflected his control of the bout from the opening bell to the final round. Durval stayed on his feet, but he never really found a way into the fight.

For Khizhnyak, already an Olympic champion in 2024, this is more than just another line on the résumé. A top‑15 position with the WBA plants him firmly on the world title ladder at light heavyweight, a division stacked with power punchers and seasoned champions.
