Pedro Neto Commends Portugal's Defensive Strength in Nations League Win Over Norway

Pedro Neto Applauds Portugal's Defense After Crucial Victory Against Norway

Pedro Neto praised the resilience of Portugal's defense following their 2-1 win against Norway in the UEFA Nations League. The winger highlighted his team's tactical awareness and quick response to conceding as key factors behind the important victory away from home.

Portugal Maintains Momentum Under Jorge Jesus

Portugal continued their strong performance under head coach Jorge Jesus with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Ullevaal Stadium. Goals from Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos secured three points, putting Portugal three points clear at the top of Group A4. This marked their second consecutive win with Jesus, strengthening their position as group favourites.

Neto Highlights Team’s Collective Defensive Effort

The 26-year-old winger expressed pride in the team's united defensive work in Oslo. He stressed that withstanding the physical pressure from Norway demanded full focus from every player throughout the match.

Handling Intense Norwegian Pressure

In an interview with Sport TV, Neto admitted Portugal had to endure heavy pressure, especially in the first half's closing stages. He pointed out that the team’s ability to cope with Norway’s aggressive high pressing reflected their growing tactical maturity internationally.

"It was a very tough match against a team with a lot of quality, top-class players and high intensity," Neto said. "They pressed very high up the pitch with great intensity and we did well. At times, they managed to take control a little more - perhaps towards the end of the first half - but we were resilient."

Quick Response After Haaland Equalizer

The turning point came early in the second half when Erling Haaland equalised for Norway. Portugal quickly showed their mental strength by regaining the lead through Ramos just three minutes later.

"It's one of the best ways to react to [conceding]," Neto remarked. "Goncalo Ramos' goal came straight after that. The team, once again, managed to stay in the game and defended well."

Neto also acknowledged that while Portugal could have controlled possession better at times, facing a team playing with such intensity made it difficult. Both defensively and offensively, he believed the squad delivered a solid performance.

Looking Ahead to Denmark Clash

Portugal aims to keep their unbeaten run alive in Group A4 when they meet Denmark in the final fixture of the current international window. They hope to extend their lead atop the standings. Meanwhile, Norway will look to recover from their narrow defeat as they prepare to face Wales later this week.
