Richarlison's Vasco Return Falls Through as Spurs Situation Worsens
Richarlison’s route out of Tottenham has closed again, and time is running out for everyone involved.
A proposed move back to Brazil with Vasco da Gama has fallen apart, despite sources indicating Spurs had agreed a fee for the 29-year-old forward. The deal reached the brink, only to be dragged back by the same issue that has followed Richarlison all window: personal terms.
The Brazil transfer window shuts on Friday night. As the clock ticks down, the growing expectation inside the game is that Richarlison will stay at Spurs, at least for now.
This is not how his future was supposed to look a fortnight ago.
On Premier League deadline day, a £35m switch to Everton collapsed late on, again over disagreements on personal terms. Since then, the fallout has been brutal. Richarlison has been left out of Tottenham’s Premier League squad, his status reduced from key attacker to unresolved problem.
Contract Dispute
The stalemate has spilled into contract politics. On Thursday, it emerged that Richarlison and Spurs are in dispute over the remaining nine months of his deal. The contract runs out next summer, but Tottenham hold an option to extend it by a further 12 months, a clause that hands the club leverage at a moment when the player is understood to be pushing for a clean break.
Those close to the situation say Richarlison is exploring his options and is keen to be released from the rest of his contract. For now, Spurs are under no obligation to grant that wish.

Roberto de Zerbi stepped around the landmine when he faced the media earlier on Friday. Asked directly about Richarlison’s future, the Tottenham head coach refused to be drawn into the tug-of-war.
“I don’t know,” he said. “It’s not my job.”
He did, though, offer a pointed defence of both sides.
“What I can say is I know very well what the club has done for Richarlison and I know very well what Richarlison has done for the club in the last month, two months.
“I know, the club knows, he knows, his agent knows. Everyone knows better than you [the media]. Much better.”
It was a reminder that this is no simple stand-off between an unhappy player and an unbending club. There is history, there is investment, there is recent contribution. There is also a contract that still gives Spurs control.
For Vasco da Gama, the collapse of the deal is a sharp blow. The Brazilian side had moved towards what would have been a headline signing, bringing Richarlison home at a pivotal stage of his career. The clubs had done their part. The numbers aligned. Then the personal package stalled, and the window has not waited.
So Richarlison remains in limbo: out of the Premier League squad, out of Brazil’s reach, and locked in a dispute over the final stretch of his Spurs contract.
The window in Brazil closes tonight. Unless someone blinks in the final hours, the next move in this saga will not come from a transfer announcement, but from what Tottenham and Richarlison decide to do with nine fraught months and a looming option year between them.
