Injury Blow: Spinazzola Ruled Out for Fiorentina Trip
Napoli’s fragile momentum has taken another hit. Leonardo Spinazzola, one of the few seasoned heads in a patched-up squad, will not be on the plane to Florence.
The club confirmed on Friday that the full-back skipped group training after suffering a mild strain to the hamstring of his right thigh. The issue, while not serious in medical terms, is serious enough: Spinazzola will miss Sunday’s lunchtime clash away to Fiorentina (12:30 CET, 11:30 BST).
For a side already walking a tightrope with fitness, it’s a setback they could have done without.
Injury List Grows Before Florence Test
Spinazzola’s absence adds another name to a growing list. Napoli are heading to the Stadio Artemio Franchi stripped of depth and experience in key areas, just as they were beginning to steady themselves.
Frank Zambo Anguissa is still training on his own, Napoli said, which leaves him highly unlikely to feature in Florence. His power and rhythm in midfield have long been a reference point for the Partenopei; replacing that blend is never straightforward.
He is not alone on the sidelines. Alessandro Buongiorno, Luca Marianucci, Scott McTominay, Giovane, Alex Meret and Alisson Santos are all set to miss the trip, cutting into the spine of the team and the options on the bench.
The coaching staff now face a familiar puzzle: reshuffle again, or trust the same core to go once more with minimal rotation.
Napoli’s Delicate Revival Under Threat
The timing stings. Napoli finally snapped a three-game losing run across all competitions last weekend, grinding out a 1-0 win over Bologna at the Stadio Maradona. It was not a statement performance, but it was a statement result — a necessary one.
That victory felt like a first step back towards stability. Now the squad list tells a different story.
Without Spinazzola’s experience on the flank, without Anguissa’s presence in the middle, and with a cluster of other absentees, Napoli head into Florence exposed. The tactical plan will need to be sharp, the margins tight, the mentality even tighter.
They have their win. What they don’t yet have is continuity. And in a season that has already asked them awkward questions, Sunday in Florence will ask another: how far can this depleted group push their revival?
