Toby Collyer Joins West Brom Over Hull City

Toby Collyer has chosen West Bromwich Albion over Hull City, with Manchester United agreeing a deal that could eventually be worth £7.6m for the midfielder.

The 22-year-old is set to join the Baggies for an initial £3m, with significant add-ons and a hefty 40% sell-on clause baked into the agreement. United clearly expect his value to rise. West Brom are betting on exactly the same thing.

This is not a blind gamble. Collyer spent the first half of last season on loan at the Hawthorns, where, despite limited game time because of injury, he left a strong impression on head coach James Morrison. The Scot has pushed hard to bring him back, and in the end, his persistence told.

For a while, the race looked all but run in West Brom’s favour. Collyer knew the club, knew the dressing room, knew the stadium. Then Hull entered the picture with real intent. The midfielder also had a spell there during the 2025/26 campaign, and momentum appeared to swing towards the MKM Stadium.

It didn’t last. Morrison’s vision for Collyer’s role – and, crucially, the promise of more minutes – turned the tide again. The chance of increased playing time became the decisive factor as the player weighed up his next step.

Hull offered familiarity and opportunity. West Brom offered that, and a manager who had already shown he trusted Collyer’s potential even when injuries interrupted his rhythm.

Now the midfielder returns to the Hawthorns not as a loanee fighting for a foothold, but as a permanent signing with a substantial price tag and a clear pathway. The question is no longer where he will play his football next season, but how quickly he can turn that faith, and that fee, into Championship influence.
