Vincent Kompany Collapses During Bayern Training
Vincent Kompany is under hospital observation after collapsing during an FC Bayern reserve-team training session on Friday, sending a jolt through the club just weeks into his tenure as head coach.
The 38-year-old was watching the second string’s workout when he went down and required immediate medical attention on site. He was then taken to hospital, where he is undergoing detailed examinations and will remain under medical care.
FC Bayern moved quickly to stress that Kompany’s wellbeing comes before everything else.
“Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure he makes a speedy recovery,” said board member for sport Max Eberl. “Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs. His coaching team, in whom we have complete confidence, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery.”
For now, his assistants step out of the shadows. They will run training and handle matchday responsibilities until doctors give the all-clear and the club issues an update.
Bayern’s plans can wait. Kompany’s return is the only result that matters.
