Wrexham Gears Up After Home Defeat Against West Bromwich Albion
Wrexham Faces Tough Times Following Loss to West Brom
Phil Parkinson, the manager of Wrexham, has urged his team to regroup quickly after their home defeat by West Bromwich Albion in a Championship clash. Despite an early lead from Kieffer Moore's spectacular 30-yard goal, Wrexham conceded twice in the last eleven minutes, losing 2-1.
The team is set to return to action at the Racecourse Ground this Saturday against Preston North End, who sit at the bottom of the table.
Parkinson's Response to the Defeat
The manager acknowledged the inevitable criticism following the loss but emphasized the need for resilience. "When you lose a home game, it's time to batten down the hatches and come out strong as a group," Parkinson said. He highlighted the determination within the squad and promised a strong reaction ahead of their next fixture.
West Brom secured their first league victory in four matches thanks to late goals by Isaac Price and substitute Aune Heggebø. This defeat prevented Wrexham from achieving consecutive home wins for the first time since February.
Analyzing the Match and Player Performance
Parkinson reflected on the disappointment of losing a game that seemed within reach. "The lads could feel it; the game was there for us," he noted. He also stressed the importance of analyzing the match to find areas for improvement.
He praised striker Kieffer Moore for his outstanding goal that temporarily gave Wrexham the lead. The 34-year-old Wales international was substituted shortly after scoring to protect him, considering he played the entire previous match, a 1-1 draw against Derby County.
"Goals like that deserve to be part of a winning performance," Parkinson said. "It was a brilliant goal. That's four for the season, and he's contributed with a few assists as well. He's had a really strong start, scoring various types of goals."
Parkinson added that while they relied on Moore to start again, protecting him from overexertion remains a priority.
