Arteta Secures New Deal with Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has reached agreement on a new, improved contract with Premier League champions Arsenal, tying the architect of their revival to a longer stay in north London.

The Spaniard’s existing deal was due to run out at the end of this season, a detail that had hovered in the background even as Arsenal surged to the title. Negotiations have been running for months, with all sides understood to be broadly aligned on the club’s direction. Now they have finally been wrapped up.

The exact length of the new contract remains under wraps, but it will carry Arteta into at least his 10th year at the club, extending a tenure that began when he walked back through the doors at Emirates Stadium in December 2019. What started as a repair job has turned into a long-term project the club clearly believes still has room to grow.

The financial terms underline that faith. Arteta’s new agreement includes a significant pay rise on his current £10m-a-year salary, on top of which he earns a further £5m in bonuses. Arsenal are paying like a club determined to keep their title-winning manager at the centre of everything.

“They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with,” he said.

Now the paperwork matches the sentiment. The man who led Arsenal back to the summit of English football is staying put, with the next phase of his reign already taking shape.
