Desire Doue Applauds PSG's Sharpness After Shattering Barcelona's 11-Game Unbeaten Streak in Champions League
Desire Doue celebrated Paris Saint-Germain's focused performance following their 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League, a match that ended the Spanish side's 11-game unbeaten run. The young French forward opened the scoring, helping PSG showcase a clinical edge against the La Liga leaders at the Parc des Princes.
French Talent Leads the Way
Doue, who impressed again after a strong display against Manchester City the previous week, scored the opening goal in the 38th minute with a precise low shot into the corner. This goal came amid a first half where Barcelona allowed 10 shots on target—their highest since at least the 2003-04 season.
High Pressing Strategy Creates Pressure
PSG applied intense pressure from the start, unsettling Barcelona's defense. Just 79 seconds in, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post after capitalizing on a turnover by Pedri. Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia made several important saves against PSG’s attackers including Ousmane Dembele and substitute Ferran Torres, while PSG's goalkeeper Matvey Safonov denied attempts from Raphinha and Fermin Lopez.
"We knew it was going to be a match of the highest standard. We were up to the challenge and showed some great football. We took our chances. The aim was to score more goals than them, because we knew they could score as well. They are a quality opponent, but we got the win and that's fantastic," said Doue in an interview with PSG TV.
Second Half Surge Secures Memorable Victory
The match saw quick responses from both sides. Nineteen-year-old full-back Xavi Espart equalized early in the second half, but Lucas Hernandez restored PSG's lead with a powerful header from a corner kick. Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal then leveled again, only for PSG to pull ahead through goals from Vitinha, who volleyed after chesting down a clearance, and Fabian Ruiz, who finished off a cross from Achraf Hakimi.
PSG now has 14 goals in three group stage matches, matching Arsenal's 2010-11 record and becoming the first team since Barcelona (September 2016 - March 2017) to score four or more goals in three consecutive home Champions League games.
"No matter what happens during the game, we try and stay focused every time. We know our qualities, we know we can score at any moment, whether that’s immediately after conceding a goal, or straight after scoring one ourselves, we are able to stay focused on what we have to do and tonight we did it well," Doue added.
