Emilio Gay Scores 141 as Durham Lead Against Lancashire in County Championship

Durham Take Command on First Day at Old Trafford

England opener Emilio Gay impressed with a fluent 141 runs, helping Durham reach 355-5 by the close of day one against Lancashire in their Division Two County Championship match at Emirates Old Trafford.

This century marked Gay's fourth in just ten innings this season, continuing his strong form especially against Lancashire, as Durham pushed hard despite having already secured the Division Two title.

Key Partnerships Boost Durham’s Total

Gay combined well with Ben McKinney to add 114 runs for the second wicket. McKinney scored 71 and hit a milestone of 1,000 first-class runs this season. After McKinney’s dismissal, Mayank Agarwal joined Gay at the crease. The pair put together a 168-run partnership before Gay was caught at second slip off Ben Walkden, just eight runs shy of securing another batting point for Durham.

Despite some tough spells for Lancashire’s bowlers, they managed to take three wickets in the evening session. Still, Lancashire struggled with dropped catches, letting four chances go, all from Durham’s top scorers.
