England Selects Donald and Crocombe for Sri Lanka Series

All-rounder Jacob Bethell has undergone successful surgery on a knee injury earlier this week and is working towards a return for the white-ball series against Australia in November. England see him as central to their medium-term plans; his rehab now becomes one of the quieter storylines shaping their winter.

Not everyone has survived the latest selection cut. Durham seamer Brydon Carse misses out on both squads. The 31-year-old, who was dropped for the second Test of the ongoing Pakistan series, has endured a turbulent spell after being briefly arrested following an incident outside a Derby nightclub on 22 August.
