Shubman Gill's Captaincy Record Across Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and IPL

Shubman Gill’s Leadership Journey in Cricket

Shubman Gill has quickly risen as a leading figure in Indian cricket. Since taking over as Test captain in 2025, he has delivered some notable victories, including a series-leveling performance in England and wins against the West Indies, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

His leadership shone during India’s 165-run win in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, marking his sixth victory in 10 Test matches as captain. Yet, the second Test ended in a draw, preventing a whitewash and slightly lowering his winning percentage.

At 26 years old, Gill has captained India in all formats: Tests, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and T20 Internationals (T20Is), as well as leading the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

T20 International Captaincy

Gill debuted as India's T20I captain in 2024 during the series against Zimbabwe. He led the team in five matches, securing four wins and suffering just one loss, achieving an 80% win rate.

India lost narrowly to New Zealand but bounced back by winning the series against Afghanistan. The July 2026 ODI series against England saw India win the opening match but lose the series 2-1 overall.

He then led India to their first Test series win under his captaincy against the West Indies at home, followed by an away series win in Afghanistan.

The recent series against Sri Lanka improved his record, with a commanding victory in Galle where India won by 165 runs. That marked his sixth win in 10 Tests as captain, pushing his win rate to 60%. The next match in Colombo ended in a draw, slightly lowering his overall percentage.
