Fighter Addresses Past Allegations After Defeat
He stood in the aftermath of defeat, but the punches he addressed on Sunday were thrown long before this weekend’s fight.
In a detailed public statement, the fighter turned away from the scorecards and the stoppage and instead confronted allegations from his college years that had been dragged back into the spotlight during the build-up to his bout. His opponent had raised the incident in fight week, and it clearly cut deeper than any pre-fight trash talk.
“This statement is for my family, my friends, my fans and the people who truly know me and know the kind of man I am,” he began, framing his words not as damage control, but as a line in the sand.
He accepted that some people would never support him “no matter what I say or do,” and left them to their judgment. His focus, he said, was on those who know him “not just as an athlete but as a husband and a father to a young daughter.”
The incident in question, he said, was “addressed years ago.” He was emphatic in his denial.
“I want to be clear — I did not do anything alleged,” he said. He stressed that he was “never charged with a crime” and that the matter “was ultimately dropped by the district attorney.”
According to his account, the case did not disappear into a grey area; he insisted it was “thoroughly and heavily reviewed” as he “fully cooperated with law enforcement, including a separate Title IX review.”
From there, he moved to the legal bottom line as he sees it.
“There were no criminal charges, no conviction, and no finding of responsibility against me,” he stated. “The matter was closed and there is no pending legal issue involving me.” He added that his own attorney conducted an independent investigation and “stated on the record that even if the law was changed, I would have the same outcome, which now speaks for itself.”
He acknowledged the weight of the subject and the way partial information can shape public perception.
“I understand how serious allegations like this are,” he said, accepting that people “may have questions when they hear only part of a story.” But he made it clear that he does not intend to live permanently in that conversation. “Moving forward, I am going to keep focusing on my wife, my daughter, my family and the work in front of me.”
The message tightened as he turned directly to those who have stood by him.
“To the people who support me, thank you. I know who I am. My family knows who I am. The people who have walked with me through life know who I am. That’s what matters to me and that’s where I’m going to keep my focus.”
Only then did he circle back to what had happened in the cage on Saturday night.
“As for my opponent, congratulations, you caught me,” he admitted, stripping away any excuses. “A mistake on my end was made. It was your night.” The tone shifted from defense to defiance, the voice of a wrestler who has been here before and knows the way out.
He reached back to his amateur days to draw the parallel.
“Just like my wrestling days after my loss, I came back with an undeniable will to win and focus that led me to the top of my sport,” he said, framing this setback as another starting point rather than a ceiling. “The result of Saturday night, I believe, will catapult me to do the same. I will be great and this won’t deny me.”
A bruising week outside the cage, a brutal night inside it — and a fighter now betting that the next chapter, not this one, will define him.
