Glamorgan Advances to One-Day Cup Final Despite Rain Delay

The Cardiff skies refused to play along, but Glamorgan are through.

A washed-out afternoon at Sophia Gardens sent them into the Metro Bank One-Day Cup Women's League 2 final at Kent’s expense, the table – and two precious bonus points – doing what the weather would not allow on the field.

Both sides arrived at the semi-final locked together on paper: six wins, two defeats apiece from the league phase. Kent had the momentum, Glamorgan the home turf. What they did not have was a break in the clouds.

The rain settled in early and never really left. Groundstaff hovered with covers, umpires waited, players stretched and retreated, hoping for a window that never came. Talk of a reduced-overs shootout lingered for a while, but as the afternoon dragged on, the prospect of any cricket slipped away. Eventually, the inevitable call came: abandoned.

That single word carried very different weight for each dressing room.

For Kent, it meant the end of the road. For Glamorgan, it meant progression, secured not by a late boundary or a final over, but by the quieter work done across the season – those two extra bonus points nudging them into second place and leaving Kent third.

So Glamorgan now head for Bristol and the Seat Unique Stadium on Sunday, 20 September, where Middlesex or Northamptonshire will stand between them and the League 2 title. One game, neutral ground, everything on the line.

There is another layer to it. This will be Glamorgan’s last outing before they step into the professional era next season. A final, a trophy shot, and then a new chapter.

The rain may have stolen the contest in Cardiff. It has not dimmed what comes next.
