Marc Guehi Reflects on Manchester City's Lack of Aggression in Champions League Loss to PSG
Manchester City Defender Comments on Champions League Defeat
Marc Guehi delivered a candid assessment of Manchester City's performance after their 4-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Despite Erling Haaland breaking records, the Premier League champions struggled early on at the Etihad Stadium.
First Half Troubles for City
The match saw PSG dominate the first half with goals from Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele, and Vitinha, giving the visitors a strong lead. The French team capitalized on a hesitant City defense that found it difficult to manage quick transitions.
"First-half we need to do a lot better, myself included, for the first two goals," Guehi admitted in an interview with City Studios. He added, "I think they were a bit more aggressive and won a lot of one on one duels in the first-half which allowed them the platform to score those goals."
Stronger Showing in the Second Half
The second half featured intense attacking play, with both teams combining for 42 shots on goal during the full match. Guehi noted a clear change in attitude after halftime.
"Second-half I think was the complete opposite, we were a lot more aggressive. We won a lot more of the duels which gave us the platform to go and score those goals," he said. This shift helped City dominate possession and create 21 chances in the second half, although they fell short of turning the game around.
Despite the defeat, Guehi praised the squad's resilience and the fans' support throughout the game.
"Not the best first-half but a lot of positives to take from the second-half. It says a lot about not just the players but the football club in general, the fans stuck by us the whole game. The support was amazing," he commented.
Looking Ahead After the Defeat
The Champions League journey is still young, and Guehi stressed the importance of learning from this setback rather than being discouraged.
"I think every single person knew that as long as we kept fighting, there was something there for us. I think it’s only the beginning of the competition," he stated confidently. "Hopefully we can learn from this and put better performances in future games."
