Kylian Mbappé’s Champions League Journey Compared to Messi and Ronaldo After 100 Matches

Champions League Titles and Mbappé's Quest

Both Messi and Ronaldo claimed Champions League trophies within their first 100 matches. Mbappé came close in the 2019–20 season when PSG lost 1–0 in the final to Bayern Munich. Since then, he has not advanced beyond the semifinals.

After joining Real Madrid shortly after their record 15th Champions League title in 2024, expectations were high for Mbappé to contribute to another era of dominance. Yet, Madrid has struggled to progress past the quarterfinals since his arrival.

Mbappé has already won a World Cup and is among the competition’s top scorers, but he openly states that winning the Champions League with Real Madrid is what he desires most.

“That’s the objective, that’s the goal [to win the Champions League],” Mbappé told CBS Sports after Madrid’s opening day victory against Inter Milan. “That’s what I said yesterday about the Ballon d’Or, but the Champions League is even more important. I play for the club of my dreams. It’s really important for me to win the Champions League here in Madrid. I want it more than anything.”

Though Real Madrid’s start to the 2026–27 campaign hasn’t dazzled, they remain one of Europe’s top teams. Mbappé’s ability to change games almost single-handedly makes this season one to watch for fans hoping he finally lifts the trophy he craves.
