Heard ‘Em Say: Bucks Roster Moves, Podcast Launch, and Draft Letdowns

Milwaukee Bucks Roster Updates

The Milwaukee Bucks are actively working to trim their roster to 15 players as the season approaches. According to Jake Fischer, the team is exploring trades to manage their current lineup. One potential move involves a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers that would send Dalton Knecht, a former first-round pick, to Milwaukee along with second-round draft picks in exchange for Jericho Sims.

Fischer mentions some skepticism about whether this trade will actually happen. The Lakers have shown interest in Sims before, valuing him higher than an early-to-mid second-round pick based on previous rankings. If no deal comes through, the Lakers might waive Knecht before the Monday deadline, despite his guaranteed $4.2 million salary for the 2026-27 season.

Sims is also reportedly a target for the Philadelphia 76ers following a preseason injury to their backup center, Ariel Hukporti.

Other Trade Possibilities for the Bucks

Milwaukee is considering trades involving Caris LeVert and Kevin Porter Jr., aiming to avoid waiving any contracted players. Retaining fan favorite Pete Nance remains a priority, as waiving him could result in losing him to another team before re-signing him to a two-way contract.

Draft Disappointments Linked to Jon Horst

Another missed opportunity connected to Bucks' General Manager Jon Horst has come to light. Last year, Washington Wizards wing Kyshawn George shared how he was surprised not to be picked by Milwaukee at number 23 in the 2024 NBA Draft despite strong workouts.

Similarly, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell revealed on the same podcast that the Bucks showed interest in him pre-draft. With Milwaukee holding the 23rd pick, many expected Mitchell to be selected there due to his ties in Wisconsin. Instead, the Bucks chose AJ Johnson, passing on Mitchell twice, as they also used their 33rd pick on Tyler Smith.

Further regrets include the 2022 draft decision between Andrew Nembhard and MarJon Beauchamp at pick 24, where the Bucks picked Beauchamp who did not meet expectations.
