Vincenzo Montella Predicts Bright Future for Kenan Yildiz Despite Injury Setback
Montella Reflects on Missing Key Players Before Nations League Battles
Vincenzo Montella, the Turkey head coach, spoke about the challenges his team faces without injured stars Hakan Calhanoglu and Kenan Yildiz. With these crucial players sidelined, Montella admitted the tactical difficulties ahead of their UEFA Nations League matches against France and Italy.
He confirmed that defender Mert Muldur will also be absent, which forces younger players into intense competitive roles earlier than expected. Montella stated, "Without Calhanoglu and Yildiz, it’s not the same Turkey. Initially, Muldur will also be missing. It will be a test for the new players, although with four matches, everything inevitably becomes more difficult."
High Praise for Juventus Starlet Yildiz
Despite Yildiz's injury, Montella had glowing remarks for the 21-year-old Juventus forward, drawing comparisons to Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero. He highlighted Yildiz's technical skill and versatility, predicting he will soon become one of football’s leading talents.
"Kenan Yildiz will become one of the world’s top players," Montella said. "Even when Ale started, comparisons with Baggio were rife. He has the talent; he has the potential of a great player. Perhaps today Kenan isn’t a classic number 10, but at that age, you transform, and you can play as a number 10 even starting from the wing and cutting inside."
Emotional Clash Against Italy and Mancini
Looking ahead to their fixtures against Italy, Montella revealed the emotional weight of facing his home country and former Sampdoria teammate Roberto Mancini. He praised Mancini as the perfect leader to guide Italy’s resurgence after recent setbacks.
"I would have liked to face all of them, but not Italy, let alone twice in a few days. I’ll be very emotional, I know," Montella shared. "I played with Mancini at Samp; there’s esteem, respect, and affection. I believe in him; he has the experience and knowledge to bring Italy back to the top. He’s the right person."
Turkey's Approach to Tough Matches Ahead
The Turkish squad is set to start their Nations League Group A1 campaign against France before taking on Italy. Montella stressed that despite missing key players, maintaining tactical discipline is vital to compete against Europe's strongest teams.
Regarding France, Montella commented on their depth and talent under Zidane's renewed guidance. He added hopes for balanced encounters in the upcoming Italy matches.
