NWSL Power Rankings: Final Weekend Drama as Playoff and Shield Spots Remain Open
The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season is heading to its climax with Decision Day on Sunday, November 1. No team has yet secured the Shield or all playoff spots, leaving everything to be decided in the final matches. All 16 teams will compete for their postseason fate.
The weekend featured some crucial performances that shuffled the standings. Angel City extended their unbeaten streak to nine games after a 2-0 win over Bay FC, while Kansas City Current climbed into fourth place following a 2-1 victory against the Washington Spirit. Gotham FC was close to clinching the Shield but must wait until Decision Day; a win or draw versus Utah Royals would seal it. Meanwhile, Utah secured their first-ever playoff berth after a goalless draw with Seattle Reign FC.
San Diego Wave drew 2-2 with Boston Legacy, keeping their Shield hopes alive but reliant on Gotham's result and goal difference. The most dominant performance was Denver Summit’s 6-1 thrashing of Racing Louisville, led by Natasha Flint’s two goals. Denver, boasting the league’s top scoring record with 53 goals, still have a shot at the playoffs.
