Renato Moicano Hints at Ending UFC Career After Loss at UFC Halloween
Renato Moicano Eyes MMA Retirement Following UFC Halloween Defeat
Renato Moicano appears unfazed by the controversial referee decision that affected his main event bout against Tom Nolan at the UFC Halloween event. This reaction might stem from the fact that "Money" is nearing the end of his mixed martial arts journey. Moicano headlined the UFC's Halloween card in Las Vegas, Nevada, last weekend.
Fight Breakdown
The matchup was intriguing since Moicano is known for his grappling skills while Nolan favors striking. Moicano took control early on by leveraging his ground game to establish an advantage.
However, in the second round, a referee's call shifted momentum. While Moicano was positioned on Nolan's back and close to securing a submission, the referee unexpectedly stood them up. This rare standup decision in such a position sparked debate among fans and analysts, especially since Moicano suffered a knockout in the following round.
Moicano's Future Plans
Though frustrated by the outcome, Moicano has come to terms with the result. The surprising part is that he was ahead before the questionable standup. Maybe his calm stems from his intentions beyond MMA. The veteran UFC lightweight contender revealed during an interview with Ariel Helwani that once his current UFC contract ends, he plans to leave MMA behind and pursue boxing instead.
"To be completely honest with you, I want to finish my contract, and once I finish my contract, I don't want to fight MMA anymore," Moicano said. "I want to do boxing, like influencer boxing. I want to beat up people that don't know how to fight."
"I don’t wanna be like Tony Ferguson. Eight fights, trying to be a champion, 40 years old, on a six-fight losing streak. I don’t want that. I’m happy. Sometimes you have to realize when you’re done. You have to realize how much gas you have left in the tank, how much love for the sport you have. For me, it’s these three more fights. I think after these 3 I’m done because [the UFC] is not gonna pay me enough."
