Sergio Perez Extends Cadillac F1 Contract Through 2029

Sergio Perez Commits to Cadillac Formula 1 Until 2029

Sergio Perez has agreed to continue with the Cadillac Formula 1 team for several more years, signing a contract extension that keeps him with the American outfit through at least 2029. This announcement comes just before his home Grand Prix in Mexico City.

After leaving Red Bull, Perez joined Cadillac's entry into Formula 1 in 2026, following a year away from the sport. Despite a debut season marked by some inconsistencies for the new team, Perez, now 36, has shown strong performance this year, often outpacing his experienced teammate, Valtteri Bottas.

From the beginning, Perez wanted to be deeply involved in shaping the team. His close connections with Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss and General Motors chief Mark Reuss helped convince him to extend his contract. He committed to at least three more seasons as part of his belief in the project's direction.

"Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter," Perez said."Building a Formula 1 team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding. There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed for the next three years.""I want to thank Dan, Mark, and everyone at TWG Motorsports and General Motors for the opportunity to build on what we have started together. To every member of this special team, at the track, in the US, the UK, and our fans, thank you for your support and trust. I won’t let you down. Let’s keep pushing."

Mark Reuss, CEO of General Motors, also expressed his support, emphasizing the long-term nature of their Formula 1 project.

"Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year," said Dan Towriss, Cadillac CEO."Together, we are focused on the next phase of our journey, pushing the team forward and making progress up the grid."

This contract extension news arrives as Perez prepares for his 300th Grand Prix, which will take place at the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend. To celebrate, Perez will perform a show run through the streets of Mexico City. The six-time Grand Prix winner has previously achieved success with both Racing Point and Red Bull.

The identity of Perez’s teammate for the upcoming seasons remains uncertain. While Valtteri Bottas had reportedly signed a multi-year deal with Cadillac, his underwhelming 2026 season has caused the team to rethink their options.

Though the struggles faced by Bottas have been partly attributed to the team's early development challenges and inconsistent car performance, he might remain with Cadillac for another year.

The team has also invested heavily in test driver Colton Herta, preparing him for a possible F1 debut. With the 2027 market seat open, there is significant interest from outside drivers, increasing competition for Bottas’ position.
