Zverev Takes a Break After Grand Slam Victory
The U.S. Open closed the book on the majors in 2026, but Alexander Zverev’s season is anything but finished.
Fresh off his men’s singles triumph in New York — his second Grand Slam title of the year after previously owning none — the German briefly traded hard courts for sand. His longtime girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla, marked the moment with a snapshot that said everything about where Zverev is right now: on top of the sport, and trying to catch his breath.
Thomalla posted a black‑and‑white photo on Instagram on Wednesday, showing the couple on a beach together. Zverev stood shirtless in swim trunks, Thomalla in a bikini, the caption reading: “Day 2 of our 2 day off season”. Two days. That’s all.
Reports indicate the mini‑break took place in Monte Carlo, Monaco, a familiar playground for tennis’s elite and a fitting backdrop for a player finally cashing in on years of promise.
Thomalla, a successful influencer and television host in Germany, couldn’t be in the stands for either of Zverev’s major finals this year, her own schedule keeping her away from the sport’s biggest stages. She has, however, cleared her calendar when it mattered most afterward, joining him to celebrate both career‑defining victories.
The images from Monte Carlo underline the contrast of Zverev’s 2026: a player in the most demanding, high‑pressure stretch of his career, squeezing in a 48‑hour reset before the grind resumes.
There is little sense of a long victory lap. The ATP calendar now swings to Asia, with a cluster of events over the next month before the season closes in Europe. All indications are that Zverev will be on those flights, chasing more points, more trophies, and perhaps the year‑end crown to match his major haul.
Two days on a beach, then back into the storm. For a player finally turning potential into silverware, the off‑season will have to wait.
