Asif Khan Receives 15-Month Ban for Doping Violation

Asif Khan, one of UAE’s most recognisable white-ball batters, has been ruled out of international cricket until December 2026 after accepting a 15‑month period of ineligibility for a doping offence.

The 34-year-old tested positive for a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance, in an out-of-competition test conducted on 8 September 2025. His suspension has been backdated to that date and will run through to 7 December 2026.

A regular in the UAE setup since his debut in 2022, Asif has played 38 ODIs and 56 T20Is, often forming the backbone of their middle order. That run now halts abruptly.

He admitted a violation of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code – the presence of a prohibited substance in a player’s sample – and accepted the sanction via a Case Resolution Agreement involving the International Cricket Council and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The consequences cut deeper than time on the sidelines. All of Asif’s individual results from 8 September 2025 up to the start of his provisional suspension on 29 December 2025 have been disqualified under the Code. Any medals, ranking points, prize money or other prizes earned in that period are forfeited.

For UAE, it removes an experienced campaigner from their limited-overs plans at a stage when every qualification cycle, every emerging tournament, carries extra weight. For Asif, the road back now starts with a long wait and a damaged record that will not be erased.
