Pakistan Revamps Squad for Edgbaston Test After England Defeats
Pakistan have ripped up their touring plans and started again.
Seven players and two members of the coaching staff have been sent home after back-to-back hammerings by England, as the visitors scramble to avoid a 3-0 whitewash heading into the final Test at Edgbaston.
The response from the Pakistan camp is brutal and unmistakable: this is a reset.
Senior names out, backroom staff changed
Mohammad Rizwan heads the list of departures, a significant call given his experience and status in the side. Imam-ul-Haq, injured during the second Test defeat at Lord’s, has also been released from the squad.
Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamir Jamal, Muhammad Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad complete the group of seven players sent home after a series in which Pakistan have been outplayed and outgunned.
The shake-up is not limited to the playing group. Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul have both been released from their roles in the touring party, with Mike Hesson and Ashley Noffke brought in to bolster the backroom staff ahead of the final Test.
It is a sweeping response to a sobering fortnight.
New blood for a battered side
Seven replacements have been called up, five of them uncapped at Test level, as Pakistan turn sharply towards youth and potential.
Top-order batters Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal are the only ones with any Test experience in the incoming group, with eight and two caps respectively. Around them, Pakistan have opted for a clutch of fresh, largely untested options.
Arafat Minhas, a left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder who has already featured for Pakistan in white-ball cricket, steps into the Test squad. Left-arm quick Mohammad Imran Jnr joins him, adding another angle to a pace attack that has struggled to make inroads in English conditions.
Wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig is drafted in, while pace-bowling all-rounders Mohammad Imran – also known as Imran Randhawa – and Razaullah complete the list of new arrivals.

Heavy defeats force Pakistan’s hand
The scale of the changes reflects the scale of the damage.
Pakistan were thrashed by an innings and 103 runs in the series opener at Headingley. Any hopes of a response at Lord’s evaporated as England surged to a 194-run victory, sealing the series with a game to spare and exposing deep flaws in Pakistan’s batting resilience and bowling bite.
Those two results have left Babar Azam’s side staring at the prospect of a 3-0 defeat unless this remodelled squad can find something radically different at Edgbaston.
The captain now leads a group that suddenly looks very different on paper and in personality.

Some of those names are familiar. Several are not. All of them now walk into a high-pressure Test in front of a full house in Birmingham, with the series already gone and reputations on the line.
England, buoyant and ruthless so far, will sense an opportunity to complete the clean sweep.
Pakistan, shaken into drastic action, must prove this reset is more than a reaction – and that Edgbaston can be the start of something, not just the end of a bruising tour.
