Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj: Cricket Romance Turns into December Wedding
Indian cricketer Rinku Singh and Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj are preparing to turn a modern-day cricket romance into a December wedding in Lucknow.
The pair will marry on December 4 at the Ramada Hotel in the Uttar Pradesh capital, with arrangements now gathering pace on both sides of the family. The guest list is expected to remain intimate: relatives, close family friends and a select circle of special invitees.
Rinku, now a familiar face in Indian cricket and a key figure for Kolkata Knight Riders, hails from Uttar Pradesh. Priya represents Machhlishahr in the Lok Sabha as a Samajwadi Party MP, giving the union a striking blend of cricketing stardom and political prominence within the same state.
Their engagement took place on June 8, 2025, at The Centrum Hotel in Lucknow, a low-key but significant step that formally confirmed what many had begun to suspect from the stands and the social media chatter around them.
A love story born in the Covid years
The origins of their relationship sit firmly in the digital age.
Speaking to The Times of India after their engagement, Rinku explained how a casual scroll turned into something far more serious. During the Covid period, when the IPL was being staged in Mumbai, he came across Priya’s photograph on a fan page linked to voting in her village. The picture caught his attention immediately.
He liked what he saw. He just didn’t know what to do next.
Unsure whether he should reach out, he hesitated. Then came the small moment that changed everything: Priya liked a couple of his Instagram photos. That hint of interest gave him the push he needed to send a message.
“It started during the COVID years when the IPL was in Mumbai,” Rinku told The Times of India. “I saw her photo on a fan page about some voting in her village. I thought she was perfect for me, but I was unsure about texting her at first. When she liked a couple of my photos, I finally messaged her, and that's how it began. Soon, we were talking regularly, even before matches. That's when I started feeling the love in 2022.”
From there, the conversation never really stopped. What began as a social media exchange grew into regular chats, then into a relationship that both eventually chose to make public with their engagement in June 2025.
From the stands to the aisle
Priya has not hidden her allegiance.
She has been seen at Rinku’s matches, including at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, cheering him on in KKR colours. Cameras have picked her out in the crowd, adding a personal storyline to Rinku’s rise as one of the league’s most watchable finishers.
Rinku, for his part, has spoken openly about their journey since the engagement, allowing fans a rare glimpse into the personal life of a cricketer whose on-field heroics have often dominated the headlines.
Now, more than a year after that engagement in Lucknow, the couple are in the final stretch before their wedding day in the same city where they made it official.
Rinku is currently not part of India’s squad for the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. His calendar, though, is far from empty. With December 4 locked in, one of the most important dates of his year will arrive not under floodlights and roaring crowds, but in a hotel hall in Lucknow, where the finisher from KKR will take on a very different kind of commitment.
