Gloucestershire Sign Young Fast Bowler Che Simmons on Loan

Gloucestershire have moved early to secure one of county cricket’s most talked-about young quicks, bringing in Warwickshire fast bowler Che Simmons on loan for the rest of the season ahead of a permanent switch in 2027.

The 22-year-old will slot straight into Gloucestershire’s push to close out their County Championship campaign, available for the final three matches, and has already agreed a two-year contract starting next summer. This is not a short-term patch-up. It’s a long-term bet on pace and potential.

Simmons broke into Warwickshire’s Championship side in 2024, but first-team chances have been scarce. Three first-class appearances is a thin return for a bowler widely regarded as one of the more exciting prospects on the circuit. For a player at his stage, the wait has started to bite.

So he has chosen the harder road: a move away from the club that developed him, in search of overs and opportunity. Simmons admitted that the chance to play regular first-team cricket was a “big factor” in his decision to switch counties, a line that underlines both his ambition and his impatience with the sidelines.

Director of cricket Jon Lewis did not hide the scale of their belief. “[Simmons] is a hugely talented young cricketer with a very high ceiling, and while he's played a lot of cricket in Warwickshire's second team, we felt this was an opportunity for him to take the next step and showcase his abilities at first-team level," he said.
